Welcome to Penn's Acres Kitchen!
Come join us in Penn’s Acres Kitchen, one of my very favorite places. In our 1839 Pennsylvania brick farmhouse, it’s warm, peaceful, and friendly, and there’s usually something happening that smells good. Just-baked bread, my husband's favorite pot roast, or maybe just a whiff of frankincense from his little warmer.
Food happens in our kitchen. So do fellowship, faith, finances, and time with friends. Good times happen at this table; hard times are wrestled out here. Fine coffee and tea, sophisticated hot chocolate, or an everyday glass of water or cup of instant coffee, warm our hands when life is cold. We live here.
Penn’s Acres Kitchen was launched in March 2006 as a slice-of-life letter of kitchen, garden, and heart. But as the seasons slowly revolve around my old oak table, I am restless to open my heart still wider.
As I write, the sun streams through the kitchen windows, gilding and warming the oak table. I want my heart to be as transparent as the glass in the windows: no pretense, no acting. No lying, even to myself.
So things are changing: the kitchen letter is stretching itself, just like my little cat, reaching as far as his delicate paws can reach, in the one small patch of sun on the wood floor.
Check back frequently to walk through the transformation with me.
